Teaching music is the main thing I do. It's hard to believe, but I've taught over 58,000 lessons! I've found one thing in particular to be my favorite subject to teach....music theory. I love helping students see how they can use music theory to create music of their own. Finding a way to express oneself...that is what playing and writing music is all about for me. I've found that theory can help immensely with that.

From a young age I couldn't get enough music in my life. It started with a fascination with vinyl albums. I loved pouring over my dad's vinyl collection and throwing them on the turntable. Going to the record store to buy a new album was the greatest thing I could spend money on. Out of the gate I was captivated by the progressive rock music of the 70's, as well as classic rock. Over time I developed a love for heavy metal, 80's pop rock, jazz fusion, instrumental rock, the blues, and classical music. The styles of music that speak to me the most are prog rock and prog metal.
For the past 33 years, I have studied guitar and music. Along the way I have made five albums in my progressive rock band Hourglass, released two solo albums, made an album that charted on the Billboard charts, played scores of live concerts, and I've done session work in a variety of styles, including work for television. I have played internationally, played on radio and television, done benefit concerts, written songs for other people, played at weddings, businesses, art galleries, and business conventions. I also have extensive experience in doing guitar setups. I studied music in college, have taught for 23 years, wrote and recorded a rocking album of music intended to help pump you up while you workout, and I even recorded a couple albums of religious music.
I currently live in northern Utah County with my wife and three daughters. When I am not immersed in guitar playing and recording, I enjoy bicycling, hiking, fly fishing, playing tennis and a game of D&D. I also enjoy watching movies and rating them on IMDb, collecting albums of many different genres, and taking on challengers at name that tune. Makes the game fun when you've taught so many different songs over the years.
